WEEK 11-PGP-Article- Helping Children Discover Their Family’s Values

Every family has values it hopes will live on through its children. Kindness, honesty, responsibility, respect, generosity, perseverance, faith, and compassion are more than words. They become part of a child’s character when they are experienced, discussed, and practiced within the family.

Parents and grandparents play an especially important role in that process.

Children often learn more from a meaningful conversation than from simply being told what is right or wrong. Asking a child, “What would you do?” or “Why do you think that matters?” gives them an opportunity to think, explain their feelings, and understand the reasoning behind their family’s beliefs.
